The first lottery tickets went on sale in 1974, and since then, this lottery has grown to incorporate over 8000 lotto ticket retailers, as well as a well-used online gaming site. Offering instant games, as well as scratch-offs and big lotteries, the Ohio lottery has something for everyone.

The Big Games

The Ohio lottery offers Mega Millions and Powerball tickets to keen players who have their heart set on taking millions of dollars home in a single draw. The best part about these lotteries, is that you can play online whether you are an international or local player.

International entrants need to buy tickets through an online concierge service, who will purchase the tickets on your behalf.

Mega Millions was introduced to Ohio in 2002, and by 2003, Ohio had seen its first big lottery winner. Rebecca Jemison of South Euclid took home a cool $162 million, one of the biggest lottery payouts in history.

Once Powerball fever hit Ohio, millions of locals started entering this game with hopes of taking home a couple of million dollars, but it was an anonymous winner who managed to pocket $261.6 million.

New Year’s raffle

Start the New Year off the right way with a raffle ticket into a multi-million dollar pot. The beginning of November, marks the start of sales at $20 per ticket. Limited to only 500 000 tickets, the draw takes place on January 5th with a first prize of $4 million. What could be better than a cool couple of million in your pocket?

Instant games

The Ohio lottery loves its instant games, with over 50 to choose from. All you need to do is decide how much you want to spend on a ticket as these games vary between $1 and $30 per entry. Some of the most popular instant games include “$100 000 A Year For Life” and the “Ohio Millions.” Both of these games give winners the opportunity to receive a substantial amount of money per year for life.

Celebrating its 40th year anniversary, the Ohio Lottery introduced the 40th Anniversary Millions. Each ticket costs $30 and the grand prize is $400 000 per year for 25 years! We worked that sum out, and it means you will be taking home $10 million altogether!

How to claim your prize

The Ohio Lottery has simple rules for claiming your winnings. If you have won less than $600, you can claim the money at any lottery retailer, while international players will receive their payouts in their concierge accounts. This can then be drawn immediately or kept for future lottery games.

If you have won more than that amount, you will need to visit a lottery district to claim your money. International players will need to contact the lottery, but all claims must be made within a year of the draw. There are different rules for claiming scratch-offs wins as this must be made within 60 days.

Whether you are playing from overseas or you are a local, you will need to pay federal and state taxes.
